The Intent of This Blog

This blog is intended to be a tool for the growth of whoever wants to use it. It is a daily journal intended to help us be more introspective. Every day I will do my best to supply a motivational quote, a Bible verse, a vocabulary word, and a personal message from myself. Use these if you like as motivation to improve yourself. Then, simply answer the daily questions provided honestly and see if it has an impact on your life. Zig Ziglar said, "If you don't have daily objectives, you qualify as a dreamer." Lets not be just dreamers but doers. Remember Martin Luther King Jr not only had a dream, he also had an objective. Thanks for reading, Jake

Differentia

Share our similarities, celebrate our differences.” M. Scott Peck

For yYou created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from You when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, God!
How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand - when I awake, I am still with you. Psalm 139:13-18

Differentia: “a distinguishing mark or characteristic.” New Oxford American Dictionary
Difference: “a point or way in which people or things are not the same” New Oxford American Dictionary

Differentia is a root word for difference. Notice how positive the definition is. It highlights how things are distinguishable. Now notice the definition for difference, it focuses on how things are different. Everyone knows people are different, everyone has heard that we should celebrate our diversities. But not everyone acts like they understand the beauty in our differentia. When we make fun of others, pointing out their flaws and bolstering our ego by finding ways we are superior, we should remember that, we were all formed by the same creator. We were all formed in His image. We were all given a purpose here on earth. So when we disparage others, we are really saying that God failed in His creation of them. Is that something we really want to do? Remember these two words, “differentia and difference,” while the definitions for both are accurate, what would you like people to point out about you, differences, or distinguished characteristics?

Daily Journaling Questions:
  1. How did I help someone in kindness today?
  2. What did I learn today?
  3. What am I thankful for?
  4. Who did I love today?
  5. What am I dreaming for?
  6. What about today do I want to remember forever?
  7. What are my goals for tomorrow?
Thank you so much for reading.

  1. I appreciate the quote that you have from Scott M. Peck I read alot of his books like the Roadless Travelled. He also wrote about Narcissism and how people have an inablity to have compassion for others as they can never put themselves in anothers shoes. My mother read all of his books. She died from Cancer 3 years ago and was a brilliant woman spiritually after loosing 2 children from separate car accidents. You have opened my eyes. I never understood her but will have to read the books she read to get a better understanding.....
    again thanks Jake

  2. Joel,
Thank you so much for your comment. I'm sorry for the losses you've had to go through. I can't imagine having to go through those things, so I appreciate your perspective. I've been doing this for a couple years now and have had times where I've felt discouraged because I wasn't sure if anyone cared. Your kind words will ensure that I'll keep doing it. I hope and pray that what I write is and will continue to be productive and worth reading. Once again, thank you so much, and I hope things are going well with you and your family and I pray that God blesses you in ways you can't even imagine.
