The Intent of This Blog

This blog is intended to be a tool for the growth of whoever wants to use it. It is a daily journal intended to help us be more introspective. Every day I will do my best to supply a motivational quote, a Bible verse, a vocabulary word, and a personal message from myself. Use these if you like as motivation to improve yourself. Then, simply answer the daily questions provided honestly and see if it has an impact on your life. Zig Ziglar said, "If you don't have daily objectives, you qualify as a dreamer." Lets not be just dreamers but doers. Remember Martin Luther King Jr not only had a dream, he also had an objective. Thanks for reading, Jake

The Ground Zero Of Love

“When you put the Word in you, God’s word will come out of you.” - Victoria Osteen

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. - Psalms 51:10

Construe: “interpret (a word or action) in a particular way” - New Oxford American Dictionary

Have you ever been angry at someone for something you know they didn’t do? I think we’ve all held people accountable for things they did in a dream. At least for a little bit. It’s funny that we would blame someone for something they did in OUR dream. But it happens. Thank goodness the feeling goes away after a little while. Our brains are funny that way. We can experience events and emotions in them that never actually happen. Sometimes those events affect our real lives. I wonder how often we treat people in a certain way because of a dreamed up idea? How often do we think of politicians or celebrities as evil or awesome based on a certain perception that, if we’re honest, we know isn’t true? The Kardashians for example. Millions of us hold certain beliefs about them even though we don’t know anything about them. Except for maybe what we see on TV; which we all know is edited to show us what we want to see. Recently I heard it said on NPR that a large part of the Russian public enjoys the news it gets about Ukrainians, even though they know the news they’re watching is edited by their government and probably isn’t accurate. How often do we edit our news? How often do we limit the stuff we hear to what we want to hear? Editing out the stuff we don’t want to be exposed to. How often do we hold an opinion simply because we want to hold that opinion? Disregarding anything that disparages it. Too often we treat people the way we think of them, not the way they are. Someone could be the nicest person we could ever meet, but if we think of them as greedy, we easily construe their kindness as manipulation. Our brains can be kinda funny like that. They really can be affected by fantasies. How we treat people can be influenced by false assumptions. Our ability to love can be destroyed by untrue beliefs. Let’s be cognizant of what we believe and hold as valuable. Some of it is just plain garbage. Let’s be careful of what we allow to influence our thoughts and actions. The world is full of lies. The devil would love for us to all hate each other. However, Christ is love. When we focus on Him, when we let Him be our greatest influence; that part of our heart that wants to think the worst goes away. He has a way of erasing our assumptions and helping us start at the ground zero of love. And that’s really where we need to be, isn’t it? At the ground zero of love. Where perspective is true and love overcomes assumption.

Daily Journaling Questions:
  1. How did I help someone in kindness today?
  2. What did I learn today?
  3. What am I thankful for?
  4. Who did I love today?
  5. What am I dreaming of?
  6. What about today do I want to remember forever?
  7. What are my goals for tomorrow?
Thanks for reading,

Jake
