The Intent of This Blog

This blog is intended to be a tool for the growth of whoever wants to use it. It is a daily journal intended to help us be more introspective. Every day I will do my best to supply a motivational quote, a Bible verse, a vocabulary word, and a personal message from myself. Use these if you like as motivation to improve yourself. Then, simply answer the daily questions provided honestly and see if it has an impact on your life. Zig Ziglar said, "If you don't have daily objectives, you qualify as a dreamer." Lets not be just dreamers but doers. Remember Martin Luther King Jr not only had a dream, he also had an objective. Thanks for reading, Jake

Commendable Thoughts

“A negative judgement gives you more satisfaction than praise, provided it smacks of jealousy.” - Jean Baudrillard

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is COMMENDABLE, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. - Philippians 4:8

Commendable: “deserving praise” - New Oxford American Dictionary

Who is really commendable? Are any of us? There are things about us that are worthy of praise. Many have sacrificed all they have for the good of others. Many people have died so that another could live. And that’s commendable. But what about our mistakes? What about the things that run through our minds? What about the part of us we’re continually trying to control? The part that always wants to drag us off the rails and succumb to temptations? Because of that part, is there anyone who is really commendable? I say yes! And no. :( No one is perfect except for God. And while God created us perfectly, we chose and still choose to do wrong. As in everything, there are glimpses of things that are truly commendable. We can accomplish things worthy of praise and rightly receive praise for those things. But as with everything that’s ever been tarnished, we are not entirely praiseworthy, and that can be very disturbing. It’s easy to be lost in despair because of the wrongs we’ve done. It’s easy to see the wrongs in others and condemn them in our hearts. It takes an effort to continually see the good in others, to give grace, to realize that no one is perfect; just like us. How could we and this world be different if we chose to think about the commendable things instead of the damning? How much more likely would we be to pray for others instead of judge them? How much easier would it be to be kind? That doesn’t mean we don’t hold people accountable for their actions, but that we see what God can do with and through them. Everyone was made in the likeness of our Creator, and everyone has been used to do wrong. But what if we tried to see God in others instead of whatever we don’t like? What if we had grace in our hearts for everyone? I believe the world would be a very different place, if only we found it a little easier to think about the commendable. Today let’s think about those things that are worthy of praise.

Daily Journaling Questions:
  1. How did I help someone in kindness today?
  2. What did I learn today?
  3. What am I thankful for?
  4. Who did I love today?
  5. What am I dreaming of?
  6. What about today do I want to remember forever?
  7. What are my goals for tomorrow?

Jake
