The Intent of This Blog

This blog is intended to be a tool for the growth of whoever wants to use it. It is a daily journal intended to help us be more introspective. Every day I will do my best to supply a motivational quote, a Bible verse, a vocabulary word, and a personal message from myself. Use these if you like as motivation to improve yourself. Then, simply answer the daily questions provided honestly and see if it has an impact on your life. Zig Ziglar said, "If you don't have daily objectives, you qualify as a dreamer." Lets not be just dreamers but doers. Remember Martin Luther King Jr not only had a dream, he also had an objective. Thanks for reading, Jake

Excellent Thoughts

“Next to excellence is the appreciation of it.” - William Makepeace Thackeray

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any EXCELLENCE, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. - Philippians 4:8

Excellence: “the quality of being outstanding or extremely good” - New Oxford American Dictionary

How much time do we waste trying to be smart? I know, that’s a strange question. One that seems to contradict wisdom. Learning is always valuable from our perspective. But is it really? Is it really valuable to be knowledgeable and wise? “Of course it is!” Would be our knee-jerk reaction. But is it really? Here’s a perspective you may have never realized. “For in much wisdom is much vexation, and he who increases knowledge increases sorrow.” - Ecclesiastes 1:18 Knowledge is neutral to morality and so is wisdom. But they come with a price. They provide a view of all the suffering in the world, and a realization we can’t fix it. But there is one who’s wisdom and knowledge comes with the power to heal, to restore, to make new, to save, and to love more effectively than we have the ability to know. “And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.” - Luke 2:52 His excellence is the ability to save. His excellence is the ability to do good above all. His excellence can fix any problem and heal and hurt. He is Christ our Savior. It’s because of our shortcomings that knowledge and wisdom leave us sorrowful and angry. It’s because we don’t have the ability to save. Maybe we can save a life here and there, but we can’t save a soul. Jesus can! Because of His excellence. And although we may be lacking, we can still serve and we can volunteer. We can hope and we can love. However, our service will be the heaviest load without the Savior. Our love will come with the greatest sorrow without the Savior. Because without Him there is no hope, and little point. He’s the source of hope because of His excellence. When we think on Him we are energized to carry on. Today let’s think on excellence. Let’s think on Christ.

Daily Journaling Questions:
  1. How did I help someone in kindness today?
  2. What did I learn today?
  3. What am I thankful for?
  4. Who did I love today?
  5. What am I dreaming of?
  6. What about today do I want to remember forever?
  7. What are my goals for tomorrow?
